The Sofa 600 is built from an authentic SEAT 600, one of the most iconic vehicles of Spanish history, and the younger sister of the famous Fiat 500.  With the Sofa 600 we aim to recover a piece of history, the nostalgia of the 60’s while turning it into an example of modern and timeless design.

Both our quest to rescue treasures from scrap yards and our love for classic vehicles have always pushed us to have a different perspective with regard to the materials we find on our way. We always try to find a new life for pieces of classic design like this one.  

The success of the Scooter Chair motivated us to continue experimenting with furniture. One day, by chance, we met a SEAT 600 enthusiast. He was the organizer of several yearly 600 meetups, so we told him our idea, which he loved. He offered us a SEAT 600 Model D that had been unused for years.  With it, we created our first Sofa 600. It was once rotting away to the mercy of mother nature and now enjoys a second chance, all thanks to the philosophy behind upcycling, or creative recycling.

The Sofa 600 displays several pieces of the original vehicle. The original bodywork, the two side fins and the complete front of the vehicle, as well as the trunk door, are all part of the finished couch. The structure that puts everything together was made from old bed structures and other reclaimed metal pieces.

The upholstery has also been upcycled. By using the seat of the SEAT 124, we are able to combine two of the most iconic SEAT vehicles into one functional piece of art.

We have also been able to save the original grill with the head lights, as well as the indicators.  They can all be completely functional thanks to a cable that needs to be connected to a power outlet and controlled by a small switch-panel.  All emblems and logos are original pieces too.

In our first iteration of this piece, we also included a small compartment on the back of the sofa, which we turned into a refrigerated mini fridge that we also reclaimed from the remnants of an old hotel. We also installed a sound system with stereo speakers integrated to the body of the Sofa 600.

After the first prototype, each new piece is completely personalized. We customize the upholstery and the pain. We can also customize and redesign the full piece down to the smallest details so that the final creation connects and represents our customer. The result is a unique piece of functional and modern design that is emotionally charged with history and symbolism.
